Department of Chemical Pathology

Welcome to The Department of Chemical Pathology

The Department of Chemical Pathology serves as a pivotal unit that integrates laboratory diagnostics, clinical medicine, and medical education. Our primary objective is to deliver high-quality biochemical analyses that support the diagnosis and monitoring of various diseases that manifest biochemically, including metabolic disorders, endocrine dysfunctions, renal and hepatic diseases. We process blood, urine, cerebrospinal fluid, ascitic fluid, pleural fluid, e.t.c by utilising advanced analysers and state-of-the-art technologies, ensuring accurate and timely results that clinicians rely on for optimal patient care.

We equally provide comprehensive training for, postgraduate residents, and laboratory scientists, effectively combining rigorous academic instruction with practical experience in our laboratories. As faculty members, we actively supervise research projects and dissertations, offering mentorship and academic guidance to cultivate the next generation of pathologists and scientists.

The department is also dedicated to research and innovation. Faculty and trainees engage in investigative studies aimed at elucidating disease mechanisms, identifying novel biomarkers, and enhancing diagnostic methodologies. Our collaborative efforts span multiple disciplines, allowing us to contribute biochemical perspectives to multidisciplinary clinical discussions and patient management rounds.

Furthermore, quality assurance is fundamental to our laboratory operations. Through robust internal and external quality control programs, we maintain the accuracy and reliability of our test results. Continuous evaluation of our practices ensures alignment with international standards and contributes to improved patient outcomes.

Finally, the department plays an active role in public health initiatives. We organise community screenings like prostate cancer screenings using Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) to advocate for preventive care, and provide training for primary care providers in the interpretation and application of biochemical tests. Through a blend of scientific expertise, academic rigour, and clinical understanding, the Department of Chemical Pathology remains a cornerstone of comprehensive healthcare delivery and medical education within the framework of our teaching hospital.
