Depowa visits victims of Yelwata massacre at BSUTH

The Defence and Police Officers' Wives Association (DEPOWA) on Thursday, 26th June, 2025, visited victims of the Yelwata massacre currently receiving treatment at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi, to commiserate with them.

Leading the visit was DEPOWA Chairperson and wife of the Chief of Defence Staff, Mrs. Oghogho Musa and was received by the Chief Medical Director of BSUTH, Dr. Terungwa Stephen Hwande, who accompanied her around the wards housing the victims.

Dr. Hwande described the attack as devastating and inhumane, revealing that many victims had lost entire families. Some had relatives burned to death and appealed to the government to support the victims after discharge to help manage trauma and shock.

Mrs. Musa was visibly emotional as she interacted with the victims. She offered words of comfort and encouragement, expressing solidarity with their pain and loss.

Each victim received an envelope containing cash and a souvenir bag filled with essential and valuable items from the DEPOWA team, as a gesture of care and support.

The visit brought relief to the victims and drew attention to their ongoing plight, highlighting the need for sustained medical and psychological care, as well as long-term rehabilitation efforts.
